Loin de moi l'idée de défendre le film: Rocky IV ... c'est un peu crétin, c'est manichéen, c'est tellement 'années 80' que ça semble totalement déplacé de nos jours. Malgré tout ce film a marqué ma vie. Bon, parce que quand je l'ai vu je devais avoir treize ans et aussi à cause de sa musique de folie!
Far away the idea to defend the Rocky IV movie ... it's a bit dumb, it's manichean, it's soooo 80's that it's just seems out of place nowadays. Nevertheless this movie marked my life. Well, first of all, because when I saw it I was like thirteen and also because of the awesome music!

Non, aujourd'hui j'ai envie de vous parler du travail de Vince DiCola, le gars qui s'est occupé des deux thèmes principaux du film et des musiques d'arrière-plan. Peut être vous le connaissez pour son travail d'après, les musiques qu'il a composé pour le film d'animation Transformers de 1986 (à voir, cette interview où il explique comment il fut impliqué dans ce projet).
No, today I just want to talk about the work of Vince DiCola, the guy behind the two main themes of the movie and all the background musics too. Maybe you know him for his next 'assignement' after that, the songs he wrote for the Transformers animated film in 1986 (check this interview where he speaks about how he get involved in that project).
Les deux thèmes principaux pour Rocky IV sont: Training Montage pour l'entrainement de Rocky en Russie et War pour le combat final avec Drago, le méchant boxeur Russe. Malheureusement les versions présentes sur l'album officiel ne sont pas celles qui sont dans le film, ce sont des versions éditées et modifiées ; et même si elles sont intéressantes, elles sont beaucoup trop 'travaillées' et ont perdu le côté 'brut' et l'énergie des versions du film. Heureusement, en 2010, Intrada publia un album avec les versions originales et tous les thèmes composés par Vince DiCola pour le film (voir ici).
The two main themes for Rocky IV are: 'Training Montage' (when Rocky is training in Russia) and 'War' (for the final fight with Drago, the evil Russian boxer). Sadly the versions presented on the official soundtrack album aren't the same as in the movie, they are edited and modified ; and although they are interesting, they are too much 'polished' and they lost their 'raw' energy from the movie versions. Hopefully in 2010 Intrada published an album with the original versions and all the themes written by Vince DiCola for the movie (see it here).
